That’s Amore! The Festival of the Bastardino - An Italian Love Affair Goes Local
Italians love their dogs, particularly those of mixed heritage. Bastardino is an Italian term commonly used to describe a mutt (or as one translation puts it, “a dog that is the result of an intersection of different breeds“ .) Bastardinos, though generally thought to have no commercial value, are highly regarded for their health, their intelligence and their affection. No wonder so many of them make great service dogs, and even more make great pets.
Event Details
In Italy, the Festival of the Bastardino is a popular celebration of dogs of mixed heritage, and Freedom Service Dogs is excited to bring the first annual Festival of the Bastardino to Centennial Park in Englewood, CO from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm on Saturday, September 13. Keeping with the Italian tradition, local vendors will offer Italian ice, pizza, Bocce ball and family fun. There will be a kids’ corner, where the bambinos can bounce in an inflatable dog house, eat snow cones and play games for prizes.
And of course, the bastardino will be celebrated: with demonstrations, tips on training and grooming, accessories, veterinarians, and dog adoptions. So come and join the fun. Meet great people and share in the love and support of these favoloso animals.
The Festival of the Bastardino is a celebration to benefit Freedom Service Dogs. Located in Englewood, Freedom Service Dogs rescues qualified dogs from local shelters and custom trains them to assist people with disabilities, providing lifetime support to ensure the success of the team and increasing the independence, endurance, and peace of mind of our clients.
