Competition Obedience is a sport where your dog is tested to follow commands from a handler and without physical assistance. The handler issues a command and your dog performs the exercise independently. Within a class (level such as novice, open, and utility) there might be 6-8 different exercises.

In our Obedience FUNdamentals course your dog will learn how to be part of a team, and how to work on his own by your command. The exercises are designed to test the dog’s ability to follow commands.

Prerequisite: Basic FUNdamentals

Goals and Objectives

When you and your dog complete this course, you will have a dog that can heel by your side, stay in position, come on command, stand on command, and watch you when you say “Ready“ .

Click on Obedience FUNdamentals Checklist to open and print a checklist where you can record your progress for this course.

Trainer will be able to:

Combine heeling in a Figure 8 pattern, demonstrate that your dog can stay and then call your dog to you, lure your dog into a stand, and prepare your dog to be “Ready“ to work.

Dog will be able to:

Demonstrate the stay and come on command, stand and heel with little assistance or luring.
