I am a true believer in giving dogs a job. My dog Kalee is proof of it!

We adopted Kalee when she was four years old, and was at the Denver Dumb Friends League for the second time. The first couple of months was spent filling holes, picking up trash confused , and watching her closely so she didn’t jump the fence (again, and again...). Other than this, she was smart and obedient.

Within a couple of months of starting Agility, Kalee quit getting out of our yard, quit burying everything in sight, and became a happy house dog. Her mind and body finally had something to do. She is now 12 years old, healthy, and still very active, as you can see in several Online Dog Coach lessons! We are now learning Freestyle dog dance.  cool smile

What’s your story? I hope ODC helps you find yours, and you share it here,
Suzy

I agree with Suzy about giving a dog a job. Keep them busy and they won’t make their own busy work, which is never good. Classes and exercise can curb their need to dig, destroy and demolish the house. I also believe that two dogs are better than one. They keep each other busy and are way more active in the yard playing with each other, running and tugging with pull toys. A great yard toy is a thick, soft rope with a couple of knots in it. Mine traveled with me 9 years ago from Florida and is still their favorite yard toy.

No kidding!  Folks buy a border collie, tether the poor animal in a small yard, and wonder why the dog is crazy. So much about responsible dog ownership is respecting what the animal is bred for and finding a way to incorporate that into their lives. Diana is the agility queen!!  And can attest to how happy and contented a dog is after a class of running on an agility course. Especially border collies!  LOL!!
