Teaching your dog the Bow command is not only a neat trick to show your friends, but it also helps your dog warm-up for an agility training session or even just a walk in the park.
Process
Start with your dog in a standing position.
Kneel in front of your dog and place your left hand under your dog’s belly (it does not need to be touching your dog).
Using a treat in your right hand, lure your dog’s nose to the ground with while you say Bow or other command. Use your left hand to keep the dog from lying down. Treat and reward as soon as your dog is in the bow position.
Tips
- As your dog learns to take a bow, you will notice that you do not need to use your left hand. Eventually, your dog will be able to bow with only a hand signal or verbal command.
