Metro Denver Off Leash Dog Parks

The following off-leash dog parks in the Denver-metro area are listed in alphabetical order by city. Please review and adhere to rules before you visit the park.

Rules

When taking your dog to an off-leash dog park, be respectful of other humans, dogs, and property. The experience should be positive and pleasant for everyone involved to promote the continuation and upkeep of existing parks, and the creation of new ones. Here is a quick list of rules that are in place at most parks.

Dog must be vaccinated, healthy, and spayed or neutered
Dog must be on a leash when not inside the park
Keep an eye on your dog at all times
Always pick up after your dog
Do not allow your dog to harass other dogs or wildlife – remove your dog at the first sign of aggression
Your dog should be under voice command at all times – “come” means “come”! Make sure you proof your dog’s come.

When walking to the off leash areas, please be courteous to other path users by keeping your dog on a short leash. For bikers – please call “on your left” when approaching pedestrians to prevent collisions with dogs and children. For hikers and bikers – horses ALWAYS have the right of way. Stop, dismount your bike or place your dog in a sit-stay, and say “hi” to the riders and their horses.

Info: This park is located on W. Union Ave between Santa Fe (hwy 85) and Federal. It’s a great little park with access to water that allows dogs to be off-leash. This park is not fenced so you should have good verbal control of your dog.

EVERGREEN

Info: This is a fenced off-leash park with a complete mountain feel. Boulders, evergreens, and scrub brush on a mountain side lets your dog explore without getting lost running after a chipmunk – though you can easily lose sight of your dog if you don’t pay attention! The space is large enough, you don’t even see the fence in some areas of the dog park. Walking to the end and back takes about 10-15 minutes at a leisurely stroll. It includes a handicap-accessible gate with bench at gate one – there are three separate entry gates. A second, smaller fenced area at the far end offers more open space. Once your dog has burned off some steam in the fenced area, you can cross the road for a longer hike on additional trails with your dog on leash.

LITTLETON

Chatfield Reservoir Dog Park

Info: This park, along with the Cherry Creek State Park dog training area, was originally created as a dog training area for the purposes of training hunting dogs, but have become popular with other dog owners. Colorado State Parks is reviewing management of these areas and currently has no plans to close or eliminate other uses. Off C-470 and Wadsworth, this is a large dog park with two ponds, a river, and wide open fields. There are two ways to get to the park: (1) Use the main entrance to Chatfield State Park just south of C-470 on Wadsworth, turn left on Perimeter Road, and go about a mile (the dog park will be on the left shortly after going over the dam) – a State Park pass is required to enter Chatfield State Park, or (2) There is a free entrance on the north side of C-470 off S. Platte Canyon Road. Traveling west on C-470 take the S. Platte Canyon exit (just past Santa Fe), turn right onto S. Platte Canyon, then turn right onto S. Depew Street (dirt road approximately 1/2 mile down S. Platte Canyon), and follow the dirt road for approximately 1/2 mile until you reach the parking area. From the parking area, it is a brisk walk on the South Platte bike trail to the off-leash dog area – follow the bike trail under the C-470 bridge, take a left over the pedestrian bridge, turn right and follow the river to the dog park. Please be courteous to other path users by keeping your dog on a short leash until you have reached the off leash area.

Health Tip: Since this dog park is heavily used and your dog is likely to drink the water, be sure to check with your veterinarian about the appropriate vaccinations to prevent communicable diseases.

Wynetka Ponds

Info: This is a relatively new dog park in the Littleton area – yeah! There are two large fenced areas for dogs to play off-leash. Each area has a doggy water fountain and benches for relaxing. The dog parks are part of a larger park with walking paths – be sure to keep your dog on-leash as you are walking to the dog park. If you are in need of treats for your furry friend, there is a wonderful pet shop in the shopping center on the Southeast corner of Bowles and Lowell called the Paw Spa. If you are in need of treats for yourself, there is a donut shop across from the park on Lowell called the Donut Hut.
